I’m Kerianne Benkosky, owner and founder of Beyond Behavior K9 Training.

 

As long as I can remember, I have wanted to work with animals. I had a passion for being a zookeeper. That dream became reality in 2003, when I cared for and trained various exotic animals, including camels, cougars, badgers, and birds of prey.

 

After almost a decade of working with exotic animals, it was time for a change, and I worked towards building a career that was more family-friendly. I enrolled in Animal Behavior College, graduated, and started my dog training journey. My journey consisted of several years working in a boarding facility. There, I supervised doggie daycare and was always observing dog behavior and body language. I also mentored several trainers and absorbed some of their training techniques, which helped me hone my skills and communication with clients.

 

Over years of shadowing a variety of trainers, and training methods, I learned there was more to training than just dog obedience. Dog training goes beyond K9 behavior. Training isn’t just about teaching commands; it’s about addressing a dog’s state of mind. Seeking out, identifying, and working as a team to resolve root causes of behavior…that’s where the real magic happens.

 

When training with BBK9, you become a part of our family. My husband, Brandon, and my son, Odin, help with training and handling of most dogs. Odin is the ‘Distraction Master’! For those families with children, he will assist in walking dogs so all family members at home can be involved, too. Again, it's an all around effort, so from kids to grown ups everyone is an intricate part of a pet’s success story. Brandon is my dog bather, pack walker, and ‘Garden Hang Out’ friend with training grads that return for boarding. In addition to training dogs, I homeschool Odin, enjoy cooking in the kitchen, working in our family garden, spending quality time with friends, hosting board game nights, and exploring nature.
